But watching the video taught me something. My wife agreed with one thing and in fact voiced it first. She said, "We don't video and photograph our kids enough." I agree with this. I can honestly say that at this point we could not put together a video of our children such as that of "Photograph" which showcased Ed Sheeran's growing up from the time he was a baby until now. Our children are still young so it is never too late to start and we will surely start taking more photos and videos of our two daughters.
The second point which was not so much a point of learning as it created awareness of how quickly time passes especially when considered in the context of point three as well. It reminded me how little time we have with our children and each other really and how important every moment with loved ones is. It is so easy to get caught up in other things which we believe are important to our loved ones when most important is simply being with them.
The third point which I took away from the video was the fact that it showcased someone who followed their lifelong passion from childhood to adulthood. It brought home to me that Ed Sheeran was born many years after me and yet has fulfilled his dream before me.
Life is not a race in the sense of one person achieving their goals and dreams before someone else, but it is important that we pursue our dreams from as young an age as possible and persist until we have achieved them. The fact that a video could be put together of Ed Sheeran showcasing his growth as a musician in addition to his growth as a person, told me something about the support he must have had from family and friends to follow his dream which supported his belief in himself. This point in itself stands as an enormous motivating factor for others who wish to pursue their dreams and who may at times feel that the mountain is just too high to climb.
The penultimate point I took away from this video is something which I believe in quite strongly and even more after seeing the video of "Photograph". I firmly believe that we should encourage our children to develop and pursue the activities they display a passion for as children. Time and again I see people who are living their life's purpose which is related to what they loved doing as children. While I am not aware of any scientific studies in this regard I am sure there are some and evidence can be found to corroborate this belief.
I personally encourage parents to abandon their dreams of their children becoming what they want them to become and rather nurturing and fostering growth in their children's passions. I have no doubt when this truly gains momentum we will have a much happier world and more fulfilled people making a greater impact on others.
Finally, the last point I learned is that there is another talented human being out there just waiting to be discovered.
Thank you Ed Sheeran for sharing your talents and music with the world!
